ASCE May Luncheon Presentation a Success

Ashlee Peno was the guest speaker at ASCE’s May luncheon on Tuesday May 14th. She presented out of the box structural engineering projects along with the creative solutions required to complete them. One of these unique projects was the Highway 47 bridge demolition on the Missouri River which consisted of a 2,500 feet long steel truss bridge being blasted. Another project presented was the creative solutions used at Washington University when the Olin Library foundations were shallower than expected during its expansion. She also talked about the relationship between the Structural Engineer of Record and Specialty Structural Engineer for delegated design projects.

The presentation was well received by a room full of civil engineers who ranged in disciplines and years of experience. The most interest was shown in the bridge demolition and the Olin library expansion and the unusual means and methods used to achieve the final result.

This was Ms. Peno’s first time speaking at an ASCE event but she hopes to find other opportunities to share her unique experiences as a Specialty Structural Engineer.
